Just How Powerful is a Modern Nuclear Bomb?

The largest nuclear bomb ever detonated was a 50,000 kiloton (1,000 tons=1 kiloton) hydrogen bomb named the “Tsar Bomba” and it is considered the most powerful man-made creation in history. The Russians nicknamed this bomb Kuz’kina Mat, which roughly translates to “We’ll Show You.” If you built a bomb of the same size and shape from the material in the sun’s core, it would take 10 million years to generate the same amount of energy.
