School District Bans Peyton Manning Jerseys to Avoid Crime?

peyton manning jersey banned

Konnor Vannata was sent home for wearing a Peyton Manning jersey.

Yea I know, I reacted the same way. Seriously.. what the fuck?

According to CBSNews.com, Students are not allowed to wear Peyton Manning jerseys in the Greeley-Evans School District. For several years, this school district has imposed a strict dress code on students forbidding certain clothing that could be associated with gangs, including jerseys with the number 18 that could represent the city’s notorious 18th Street gang.

Tim Tebow’s Impact On The Jets

If you love drama, the Jets are about to take it to the next level and whether you like it or not, you will be hooked.

The Jets traded their 4th and 6th round picks in 2012 for Tim Tebow and the Broncos 7th round pick in 2012.

Linsanity Tops Tebow Mania

Tebow Mania

 Tebow Mania:

The NFL is the top sport in America in my opinion, and no one captured the spotlight this season like Tim Tebow.

Tebow (as everyone knows) took a Bronco team that was 1-4 that seemed destined to fight for the #1 overall pick this April, to a playoff contender fighting for the AFC West division crown.

Tebow led the Broncos to the playoffs and won in miraculous fashion in the first round against the Steelers. The Steelers were heavily favored and the Broncos backed into the playoffs losing two in a row.

Just when everyone thought Tebow Mania was over, he comes out and throws for 316 yards and a game-winning 80 yard touchdown pass in overtime to beat the Steelers.

Tebow also started as the 4TH STRING quarterback in training camp before the season started.

Talk about climbing the ladder of success?

Tebow was very well-known coming into the NFL and was actually drafted in the 1st round. So in my opinion, it was inevitable that Tebow was going to get his shot to play. However, that does not take away from his journey to become a starting quarterback.

I respect what Tebow has done on and off the field and for the sport of football, he is a great role model and person, yet he still has work to do to be a consistent quarterback in the NFL.

Jeremy Lin Knicks

Linsanity At An All-Time High

Linsanity:

Just when you think you have seen everything in sports, something like this happens.

Jeremy Lin, a HARVARD graduate has captured super-stardom in the biggest of all stages, Madison Square Garden.

Football is America’s sport, but Basketball is New York’s sport, when the Knicks are playing good, the NBA is thriving and New York City has a special buzz about it.

Lin has been over-looked, cut twice, and was sleeping on teammate Landry Fields’ couch waiting to be cut by the Knicks. However, like all great underdog stories, Lin seized his opportunity and has not looked back since.

Unless you have been living under or rock or do not own a television, Jeremy Lin in his 7 starts is 7-0 and has revitalized a fan base and an under achieving Knick team that desperately needed a point guard.

Linsanity keeps going.

For example, against the Toronto Raptors as Lin hit a game winning 3 pointer . Linsanity has reached a point where Knick fans are afraid to get their BEST PLAYER Carmelo Anthony back from injury.

HOW AMAZING IS THAT?

Carmelo has been a top 10 talent in the NBA for the past 7 years. Lin, on the other hand, has been a great talent for SEVEN GAMES .

Lin has saved the Knicks’ season with his clutch and charismatic play that has captured the attention of not only New York City but the world.

In China, Lin merchandise (real and counterfeit) are sold out.

THEY RAN OUT OF COUNTERFEIT MERCHANDISE!

 Linsanity tops Tebow Mania.

Taking over New York City is no easy task and if you play well in New York, you become a national story.

Lin has come out of NO WHERE and was not expected to be anything in the NBA, he was not highly touted out of college, where as Tebow was one of the best college football players ever.

Both players have inspired and brought the best out of their teammates, it truly is a great example of what sports SHOULD BE.

NO EGO, JUST PLAY..

My Opinion on Tim Tebow

Tim Tebow, the man, the awkward throwing motion, the legend.

I want to start this off by saying I am NOT a Tebow fanatic, however I respect what he is doing for the Denver Broncos.

When I think of great quarterbacks, I think Tom Brady and Peyton Manning (Aaron Rodgers/Drew Brees are working their way up my list) but the fact is not every team in the NFL has the luxury of having these Hall of Fame caliber quarterbacks.

Unless you have been living under a rock you have probably heard that Tebow is 6-1 as a starter this season for the Broncos and has them in position for a division title and a playoff berth.

Looking at his statistics, they are not terrible, in his 7 starts, Tebow has thrown 10 touchdowns to ONE interception, but with a completion percentage of 48.5%, He also has 468 rushing yards with a 5.7 Yards per carry and 3 Touchdowns with 6 fumbles (2 were lost).

So overall Tebow has 13 Touchdowns to 3 Turnovers, the numbers indicate he is a game manager, very inaccurate, he doesn’t turn the ball over and does not cost his team games, yet his completion percentage is terrible which is expected from a young quarterback coming from the spread in college.

However, you put on the game film of this kid in the 4thquarter it is unreal. As a loyal jet fan I watched my vaunted defense get “Tebowed” after the Jets defense dominated throughout the game, Tebow takes his team of Willis Mcgahee and practice squad players for 95 yards for the go ahead score, crushing my ego, but with defeat comes respect. However, what Tim Tebow is doing right now is crushing any barrier of what a quarterback SHOULD BE.

As NFL fans we want our Quarterbacks to be dominate in the passing game and have perfect mechanics (Aaron Rodgers 2011 season, Peyton Manning and Tom Brady’s careers) but in reality, not every quarterback can be like that, but as fans the one thing we should want is our Quarterback to win and be clutch in key moments of games, as of now Tebow has done that.

Now, what I have trouble with in regards to Tebow is the fact that nobody seems to be giving credit to the Denver Defense or Willis McGahee (solid signing?). Tebow has given the NFL fans great moments this season, but Willis McGahee along with the Denver Defense have been playing flat out awesome and have been just as important to Denver’s resurgence as Tim Tebow’s play.

Here is a debate I heard and I thought was very interesting and true, Mark Sanchez, Quarterback for the New York Jets has been under intense scrutiny about his play, now there are stats to prove that, five of his turnovers have resulted in defensive touchdowns (most in the NFL),on the other hand his 11 come from behind victories are most in the NFL over the past two years, and he has led his team in his first two years to AFC championship games (all on the road).

His play at times can be flat out disgusting and brutal to watch as the same can be said for Tebow, yet both of these quarterbacks find ways to win in clutch moments when their team needs them most. Sanchez also has done it in the playoffs, which remains to be seen with Tebow.

Yet with Sanchez, all I hear is that the Jets defense is stout and the defense is the reason why the Jets have been successful, which is true, I am not disputing that, but I am disputing that Sanchez has done nothing to help the Jets win down the stretch in the season and in the playoffs.

Denver’s Defense has been just as important to Tebow’s success as the Jets defense has been to Sanchez’s success in fact, in Tebow’s wins Denver’s Defense has allowed 348.6 YPG and 17.3 PPG, with 8 Turnovers and 19 sacks. So is it fair to give Tebow all this praise when in his wins, his defense is clearly doing their part, than give Sanchez no credit when he wins and his defense does their part?  We have to be consistent in our criticism with Quarterbacks, if you’re going to give credit to Tebow, you gotta give credit to Sanchez.

I’m not saying they are the best Quarterbacks in the NFL, both have a long way to go to become elite Quarterbacks, but each of their play should be criticized fairly.

In the end, everyone has their own opinion, I am enjoying this Tebow mania, it is different and something I have never seen before and this only makes the NFL better which seems almost impossible, but that is why we watch and critique.

Enjoy the NFL games, it could always be worse. You could be John Elway right now deciding whether to keep or cut Tebow at the end of the year.

Imagine this, Denver wins division, makes playoffs, loses in first round, Denver cuts tebow, drafts a Quarterback in the first round and goes 4-12 in the 2012 campaign meanwhile, Tebow rejuvenates a dormant fan base and  thrives for his hometown team. The Jacksonville Jaguars.  Good luck John.

Let The Children Play: Top Rookies in The NFL

The 2011 season has been one full of key injuries to top veteran players.

Kenny Britt went down early in the season giving room for Nate Washington and Damian Williams to step in and make an impact.

Peyton Manning hasnt played a snap all season giving Curtis Painter a chance to….go win less.

Andre Johnson has missed a chunk of the season along with Arian Foster and Matt Shaub. Matt Forte just went down last week with a knee injury, and Miles Austin has missed a majority of the season with a hamstring injury.

I can probably go on and on with this list, but lets discuss the more impressive part of the season, the rookies.

This is who I believe are the top rookies of 2011:

Julio Jones

In the 2011 draft, the Atlanta Falcons traded away multiple draft picks for an early first round pick to grab Julio Jones.

His Performance in the combine was simply amazing, and he did it all with a broken bone in his foot. He has been one of Matt Ryan’s most reliable receivers catching 30 passes for nearly 500 yards and is Atlanta’s main deep ball threat.

I am sure you all remember the show he put on against the Colts a couple of weeks ago.

5.WR  Torrey Smith: Baltimore Ravens

Remember what Torrey Smith did to the St. Louis Rams in week 3?

In the first quarter he caught 3 passes, all for touchdowns and a total of 130 yards. These were his FIRST three catches of his career. Talk about a confidence booster.

This rookie has topped 150 yards TWICE this season. He made himself into one of the most feared deep ball threats in the league, and i am sure Mr. Flacco loves having him on the squad.

4. RB Demarco Murray: Dallas Cowboys

Demarco Murray made his first appearance when Felix Jones went down in the middle of the season. He seems to break a 50 plus yard run every game he’s played.

He is very fast and agile which makes him extremely tough to wrap up. He hits the holes better than any rookie running back that I have seen in a while. He’s rushed for over 100 yards in three games, and in his first start as a running back, he surpassed 250 yards rushing.

Not to mention Murray broke Emmitt Smiths Total rushing yards in a single game record.

3. LB Von Miller: Denver Broncos

Von Miller

VON MILLER IS NASTY!

The rookie linebacker in Denver can easily win defensive player of the year. He along with Champ Bailey make up an extremely dangerous defense. With 11 sacks and 58 tackles, Von Miller is becoming the Ray Lewis of the Denver Broncos defense.

Its simple, Von Miller is a huge part of Tim Tebow’s success.

2. WR AJ Green: Cincinnati Bengals

AJ Green is the top receiver on the Bengals, pairing up with another amazing rookie QB that I haven’t mentioned yet.

He has 745 yards and 6 touchdowns, leading all rookies in both categories. You can easily mix those stats up with that of an 8 year vet. He has developed  very strong and early chemistry with his quarterback.

Can you say Peyton Manning/Marvin Harrison?

AJ Green can be compared to Julio Jones and other rookie wide receivers, but what puts him on a different level is his consistency. He is a FREAK OF NATURE and he dares any corner back to line up in front of him.

1. (a) QB Cam Newton: Carolina Panthers  (b) Andy Dalton: Cincinnati Bengals

(b)  Thanks to Carson Palmer and his stubbornness, Andy Dalton has himself a starting position as the Bengals quarterback.

He lead the team to a 7-4 record, and has played some very impressive games. Like I mentioned before, He has an amazing relationship with wide-receiver AJ Green and it seems like they will be tearing the NFL up for the next 10+ years.

Dalton is so dangerously accurate and has been doing it consistently. With Green and Dalton being so consistent, all NFL fans should be excited to watch the next best duo.

Congrats to Dalton on becoming the future of the Bengals organization.

CAM NEWTON SHOCKED THE FOOTBALL WORLD:

Cam Newton

Who would have thought that the College style quarterback would be 7th in the league in passing yards. Last week he broke the record for most rushing touchdowns for a quarterback in a single season in NFL HISTORY. When you make history as a rookie, you should be recognized.

He does have more interceptions than touchdowns and turns the ball over a lot, but so did Peyton Manning in his rookie year. His ability to tear up defenses as a rookie is just boosting his confidence.

I would bet any amount of money that in the near future Cam Newton will be making a run towards the Superbowl, possibly seeing Andy Dalton on the other sideline. I have a good feeling they will be seeing each other in a couple of big games.

My only problem with Cam Newton is that he does run a lot and he tends to lower his shoulder at linebackers. If he doesn’t change this habit, he eventually will run into one of the leagues bad ass linebackers and lose his head.

Just slide dude!

As a colt fan this season has obviously been a huge disappointment, but I do enjoy watching the future class of the NFL tear it up in their rookie year.
