VIDEO: 1950′s Doctor Recommends Smoking Cigarettes

This may be in the 1950′s, but doctors and Pharmaceutical Companies are doing the same thing today, just in different ways that are kept from the public.

Click here for an article explaining the different ways that they influence people on buying dangerous products, including prescription medication.

This video’s contradiction to today’s views is pretty amusing.

Enjoy.

The Rational Atheist

In the past few decades, there has been an explosion of people who consider themselves to have no religious affiliation.  While some of this population, when asked, will answer that they simply possess a set of beliefs, (or lack of belief), that falls into no current religious system, a large majority of this group consider themselves “Atheist”.

It is difficult to define this word universally, but for the most part, an atheist is a person who does not believe in god, deity, or any other words with divine implications.

“Divine” is another word that is difficult to define, but for now lets just say that it means “pertaining to holiness” and/or “relating to god”.

I myself was brought up jewish, however at a very young age, I called bullshit on the whole thing and moved to agnosticism, (which to me means one who is unsure of whether god exists or not), and then with a little more age, and faulty childhood wisdom, I moved to a definitive belief that there was no god, I.E. atheism.

Now, I believe that I have finally come to a definitive answer to the age old question “do you believe in god.”

The answer to this question, is actually another question.

When asked, my response is consistently “That depends… what do you think god is?”

My theory, is that atheism is a direct response to the mass religious teachings, which have greatly simplified this infinitely profound subject matter.  This was done, because the overwhelming majority of the world population did not have the mental capabilities to comprehend the abstract truths of god.  Infact, it’s possible that while some people get close to understanding, it can never be fully understood.  This is shown by the one word that most people can agree is the only word that can be used to describe god ; INCOMPREHENSIBLE.

Here are a few more synonyms that I’ve heard ;

Indescribable, Unimaginable, ineffable, etc, etc.  I think you get the point.

However, the most intelligent, rational, intuitive people who have ever existed have spent entire life times trying to know god, AND put what they have found into words.

Most people don’t care to take this incredibly deep, overwhelming journey down the rabbit hole, and it is for these people that mass religion was created.

But for most, if not all, surface level religious teaching, there is an inner circle of people who at some point possessed real knowledge of the divine.  These mystical truths are what eventually, after a certain amount of simplifications, became packaged and distributed to the world for certain reasons which I can’t be sure of.

A few obvious ones would be to keep people in line, establish moral systems and codes of ethical behaviors, and most importantly, to give people PURPOSE.

Also, I feel it can be used as “bread crumbs” to lead people back to the source, if and when they decide to take the leap and dedicate themselves to wisdom and truth.

But for now, we are left with the outcome of people who realized that having “faith” in something with no proof attached to it, is an unintelligent and ignorant thing to do.

With all the scientific progress that has been made recently, it seems that in this age more than any other, people are skeptical of everything they hear until it is “proven”.  This seems to be where atheism stems from, because the backbone behind the “dumbed down” truths of Christianity, Judaism, and many other world religions, is FAITH.  You can’t need proof and have faith of something at the same time; it is a fatal contradiction.

But maybe atheism is a step in the right direction.  We could be experiencing an evolution in consciousness soon, and atheism might be necessary in order to get rid of the old, and establish a new, more evolved and intellectually based, system of religious belief.

The Man in The Sky With The Beard

Atheism is more of a negation of the current religious systems rather then a negation of religious and spiritual beliefs in general.  Most Atheists, when asked why they are atheist, will answer with something along the lines of “Because there is not a man in the sky, with a beard, sitting on the clouds, watching everything we do, and torturing us for fun!”

In reality, the majority of atheists are just getting hip to fact that the mass religious teachings are simplified, and ultimately, make little to no logical sense.

But I have had deep philosophical discussions with many atheists, and not ONE of them has TOTALLY disagreed with my beliefs, and guess what?  I BELIEVE IN GOD!

But the question “do you believe in god?” is not a yes or no question, because the word itself registers a completely unique conception in every single persons mind.  How can we argue about something that we can’t agree on the meaning of?  If you think a couch is a table, then there will always be a miscommunication when discussing couches!

I really do have my own unique set of beliefs when it comes to the mysteries of life, and I encourage everyone to think for themselves and come to their own conclusions on these topics.

But don’t ignore them, because they were meant to be pondered.

Peace, Love, and compassion for all.

A Message to The Government and The Powerful Elite

Please come assassinate me.

I am spreading truth and positivity too fast, I need to be stopped.

You have done it in the past, so why not do it again right?

You killed Kennedy because he foiled your plans to fake terrorist attacks on Americans by vetoing the bill your Joint Chiefs of Staff approved.

Never heard of Operation Northwoods? Read this article.

How about just hiring a hooker to lure me back to a house where you can do experiments with psychedelics on me.

Never heard of Operation Midnight Climax? Read this article.

God Bless America? God Bless Truth, not Propaganda.

It is pathetic how you get away with so many things that people have no idea about.

Even if they knew about it, they probably wouldn’t believe it anyway because you cover it up so well.

Thanks to the internet, I have learned all of your secrets and plan on infecting everyone with this knowledge.

It is even more pathetic that you have been doing this throughout history, and have made people believe that your actions are for the benefit of society as a whole.

You have constantly brainwashed your own citizens to believe a certain way.

You control the media, and most people will believe anything they see on television and read in the newspapers.

You create depression and make people depressed, then conveniently sell the cure for it in the form of anti-depressants. 115,000,000 suckers each year. No wonder pot needs to be illegal. You would be out of business if it wasn’t.

It’s too easy right?

I know it is.

I wish I had your power so I could do the complete opposite.

So like I said, please take me and my crew down, we are going to go right ahead and change the world if you don’t.

I am willing to die spreading truth. It is the only thing that matters in this crazy world. :)

“Leveling” Opponents in Poker Tournaments

“Leveling” is a term coined by many poker players as a process of outsmarting an opponent through deductive reasoning and logic.

You try to determine where your opponent stands in a current hand, their current mind state, what they think about your holdings and how much you think this tournament and more importantly the money truly means to them.

All of these are factors if you want to exploit your opponents with aggressive moves deep in big tournaments.

The King of Leveling

As tournaments get deeper, the prizes get larger and many players start focusing on the different pay jumps at different levels.

I am only concerned about winning the tournament, and I will make moves that look super stupid to the average player, but I have to take calculated risks if I want to succeed long-term as a player.

I am willing to lose 20 straight tournaments to book a win in the 21st because the prize for the 21st will completely outweigh the buy-ins I spent on the other 20.

Because of the increasing blind levels in comparison to chip stack sizes, you have to attack pots and add to your stack or you will blinded out and have to rely on luck to stay alive. For this reason, I like to turn up the aggression as the final table approaches.

In order to effectively exploit opponents and “level” them, you need to develop a good read. You need to focus on how players act when you are in a hand, and while you are not in a hand. If you focus on anything except what is going on at the table, you lose the chance to pick up valuable information and tells.

Little details count, even how an opponent stacks his chips can help you determine what type of player they are. You have to size up your opponents if you want to make big moves to take down big important pots in the late stages of tournament play.

As I have talked about before in my previous articles, putting your opponent at a decision for every chip in front of them is the strongest move in tournament poker. Many players are afraid to bust their tournament life, and they are less likely to gamble. Finding these opponents and exploiting their passiveness can net you some easy chips to add to your stack.

There are times where I will shove all in with any two cards if I determine the remaining opponent or opponents in the pot to be weak and passive. 95% of the time they will fold unless they have AA,AK,KK,QQ,JJ and sometimes 10,10. Many players are afraid to even gamble with hands such as 99,88 and lower pocket pairs for their tournament life in spots where I will snap call with these holdings against another opponents all-in shove. Even against AA, my hand is never dead and there have been times where I shove J6o and crack aces by hitting two pair or a set.

No hand is ever 100% pre-flop, so you always have a chance to win. You never are getting your money in dead preflop.

You can also exploit solid aggressive opponents as well.

If You're Not First, Your Last.

Many good tournament players will open any two cards in late position hoping to take down the blinds and antes and add to their stack. If I am sitting behind them and I know them to be doing this, I will re-shove all-in over their initial raise. Deep in tournaments, you are usually sitting with 10-25 big blinds which is the perfect stack size to make this aggressive move. Your opponents will be forced to fold their mediocre holdings and you pick up their initial raise along with the blinds and antes barring an opponent behind you waking up with a big hand which wont happen as often as you think.

Picking good spots to take calculated risks to add to your stack is absolutely essential if you want to win big tournaments. You simply cannot sit back and wait for aces if you want to win. You might min cash with this strategy, but who cares? If you spend $100 on a tournament to just win $250 for a min cash you are leaving a lot of value on the table. You should be shooting for the first prize which could be in the $10,000s.

One big tournament win can change your life financially.

Why would you settle for less than first place?

How To Raise Your Universal Vibration

The Universe Runs on Vibration

The universe runs off vibrations.

It responds to the vibrations you put out into it.

You ATTRACT your dominant thought patterns in events, opportunities and relationships.

What are your current thought patterns? Do they coincide with your current reality?

If you answered no to either of these questions, you are simply lying to yourself.

Everything you have currently is a product of your thought, and more importantly, a product of your vibrational frequency.

Ever have a thought about someone, maybe a friend or family member then all of a sudden they call or text you?

That isn’t coincidence, in fact there is no such thing as coincidences.

What is happening here is called a universal synchronicity.

You sent out the vibration, and the universe responded. You may have also picked up subconsciously on the vibration your friend set out before he or she decided to call you. It works hand in hand.

This may be a scary thought for many of you if your predominant thought patterns are focused on NEGATIVITY. This is however able to be reversed into POSITIVITY if you consciously make the effort.

One of the best ways to tune into the vibration you are currently setting out to the universe is to MEDITATE. I already know many of you won’t even try this, but how badly do you want to change your life?

Here are my top 5 reasons for why you should meditate, and how it has benefited my life IMMENSELY.

When you sit down in isolation with just your thoughts, you can see what you are predominantly thinking. It can be a very rough experience if you are trying it for the first time and stuck in a rut of negativity. This is the first step towards eliminating your negative thoughts and vibrations.

Once you are able to meditate effectively, you can begin to quiet your mind of all its thoughts, and instill POWERFUL and EMPOWERING positive beliefs about yourself and your life.

This is a process of rewiring your subconscious, and you can read this article to find out how powerful the subconscious really is. After all, it is 90% of our brainpower, and our brainpower might be the most powerful force on the earth.

Thinking positive is not going to find you any results however. You have to take INSPIRED ACTION to make those beliefs a reality.

Choose The Path of Positivity

Without action, there is no result. Thinking and focused action goes hand in hand. They don’t work without eachother.

We are in this universe to create. We are master creators. We create each day. We choose what we want to create.

Raising your vibration into a more positive state makes creating what you ACTUALLY want a lot easier. Shifting your vibration from negativity to positivity released all the stress and tension from your body and gets you flowing in the right direction. It has been said that a positive thought is TEN TIMES more powerful than a negative thought. There is a reason why positivity is TRUTH and the TRUTHFUL way to live.

If it wasn’t, why does it feel so good to be happy?

Why does it feel bad to be negative and stressed out?

Happiness can only be achieved through positive thinking and inspired action.

Take steps to raise your vibration today.

Meditate, share and laugh with friends, play your favorite music at an obscenely loud volume and just toss all your worries aside.

Life is too short to give a fuck. :)

Top 10 Ways to Alleviate Depression

Jim Carey suffers from depression

Jim Carrey, Owen Wilson, Ellen Degeneres, Russell Brand;  are all comedians that suffer from depression.

Depression is a commonly diagnosed mental illness that can range from mild to severe low mood  leading to suicidal ideation and attempts.

You would think these happy-go-lucky, funny, rich famous people have no reason to be depressed, but depression is not picky and can sneak its way through anyone no matter the shape, size, sex, financial status, social status and occupation of the person.

Yes, there are environmental variables that can exacerbate depressed mood, triggers that cause onset of depression, poor diets, work pressures, financial stress, relational conflicts, health concerns, loss of a loved one and chronic stress, all in which contribute to depression.

People carry depression genes

IT’S IN THE BRAIN.

More than likely, someone who experiences depression is predisposed to it, meaning they carry a “depression” gene. An individual’s biological make up is believed to be the etiology of the disease. You will usually see patterns of depression in families because depression is hereditary just like diabetes, cancer, obesity, height and eye color is. That does not mean if depression runs in your family you will definitely have it. It just means that you may be more sensitive to it and would benefit from learning prevention techniques or coping skills to avoid or manage it just as someone who may watch their sugar intake if both of their parents had diabetes.

Depression can get in the way of our jobs, productivity, family relationships, friendships, motivation, creativity, self-care, concentration, sex life, sleep and overall wellness. Although depression is an intrusive, destructive and uncomfortable experience, there is hope to alleviating depression, but first we have to be aware of it.

Warning signs of depression

Warning Signs-If you experience at least five out of eight of these symptoms for two weeks or more you may be suffering from Major Depression, but definitely see a mental health professional first to talk in more detail.

1. Subjective feelings of sadness and emptiness (tearful) for most of the day nearly every day

2. Diminished interest and/or pleasure in all daily activities

3.Weight loss or weight gain, loss or increase of appetite

4. Insomnia or hypersomnia nearly each day

5. Psychomotor agitation or retardation nearly every day

6.Fatigue and/or loss of energy nearly every day

7.Feelings of hopelessness or excessive guilt nearly every day

8.Diminished ability to focus, concentrate, make decisions and think clearly nearly every day

9.Recurrent thoughts of death, disease, suicidal ideation without a plan or suicidal ideation with a plan and suicide attempts.

Top ten ways to alleviate depression.

1.) DON’T ISOLATE!

Depression eats away our desire to socialize and be near people. Since depression is related to feelings of worthlessness and loneliness, isolating will only reinforce and justify your idea that you are not worth being around people and keep you sitting alone in your own head.

Socializing keeps you distracted and connected with others. Emotional support is key to feeling better, even if it’s just a hug from your friend. As hard as it is for a depressed individual to get up and get moving, sometimes you must force yourself up and do something you don’t want to do because if you are depressed you more than likely don’t want to do anything. Depression makes everything a lot more complex and difficult than what it is, so whatever social plans you make, keep it simple so you don’t overwhelm yourself. Make plans to go for lunch or a drive, not a ski trip just yet. It gets easier with practice!

2.) DON’T “MUSTURBATE!”

According to the well-known American psychologist Albert Ellis, founder of Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), individuals who “Musturbate” tend to become more depressed than those who don’t musturbate.

What is musturbating?

Ellis describes musturbation as the tendency for humans to place  rules and demands on themselves and hold thinking patterns with internal dialogue such as “I MUST do this or I MUST do that. Ellis came up with a list of words that human beings tend to use that cause intense feelings of anxiety, guilt, anger and depression.

Musturbatory Words:

Must

Should

Shouldn’t

Have to

Need to

These are just a few of the commonly used phrases that Ellis believed to be a cause of emotional distress, depression and other mental health issues. For example, some people may hold the belief that their friend or significant other SHOULDN’T break plans with them or a mom/wife may hold the belief that she MUST have dinner ready before 6:00. Thinking and talking using these phrases will only make things worse. Try replacing those “Musturbatory’ thinking patterns with more realistic and easy-going words. Lets try it.

Mom’s Musturbatory thoughts - “I MUST have dinner ready before 6:00 or else my family won’t eat on time and I’ll disappoint them, therefore I’m a bad mom.”

Mom’s healthier thoughts - “I’d like to try to have dinner ready by 6:00, if not I’m sure 7:00 will be fine; my family isn’t starving and can tolerate feeling hungry for an extra hour, it doesn’t mean I’m a bad mom or wife, I just had a busy day.”

Doesn’t the 2nd one sound so much more easing?!

So anytime you find yourself using words like these, try replacing them because you really don’t HAVE to do many things you think you do. Ellis thinks we really “SHOULD” implement this to start feeling better.

3.) Structure

Make a daily schedule for yourself to avoid having to make too many decisions as to what to do for the day. Because depression can cause indecisiveness, have plans already decided on to avoid any added stress or feelings of guilt on the decision you made. You may want someone to help you with this as it may be hard to find the motivation to plan activities. Buy a planner and use it.

4.) Stand clear of boredom

Keep your mind busy and active. When we have too much time on our hands we think too much. We start thinking about how horrible we feel and feel sorry for ourselves.

Simple activities like organizing your desk, color coordinating your clothes, cooking a new recipe, shopping, decorating a room in your house, watching a movie ,playing a video game or reading a book are activities that can take up your time and distract you from yourself. Just try to stay out of your head because that will only feed the depression.

5.) REFRAIN FROM BLACK AND WHITE THINKING

Try to see the gray areas in situations instead of labeling things as either BLACK or WHITE, good or bad and all or nothing.

If we develop a pattern of perceiving life events and ourselves as so ABSOLUTE, we leave no room for all of the shades of gray in between.

For example, if your best friend forgot to call you back one day when you really needed them we can choose to anger ourselves more and cause more distress by labeling them as a bad friend and terminating the friendship, which most likely will lead to feelings of anger, guilt and depression.

Instead, we can see the gray area which would be, “It sucks they didn’t call me back,I’m pissed off right now, but they are my best friend for a reason and they probably didn’t mean it to hurt me”. You can even apply this to your own emotions. Some people who overcome depression get really upset when they have a day when they’re not happy therefore they believe they are supposed to be depressed and sometimes it can lead into a vicious cycle. It’s ok to be in the middle, average, or just “ok”.

6.)Act as if you are not depressed

When you’re depressed try to act as if you’re not.

Don’t shlep around in sweat pants and an unwashed face. Try to put on nice clothes, take a shower and force a smile. Train your brain to believe you’re not depressed. You will be surprised how helpful this could be and research indicates that we have the power to change our neural pathways in our brains just by practicing alternative styles of thinking and behaving. See this one as a brain exercise.

7.) Eat right

Eating healthy balanced meals also plays a role in helping to treat depression. There is a correlation between depressed individuals and deficiencies in Folic Acid, vitamins b12 and b6 and omega 3 fats; most commonly correlated with a Folic Acid deficiency. You can find Folic Acid in beans, leafy green vegetables and seeds.

8.) Exercise

There are two reasons why exercise helps alleviate depression.

One is the release of endorphins commonly known as “runner’s high”. These endorphins that are released during exercise attach to the same receptors as opiates do concluding that elevated mood and sense of elation occurs during and after exercise.

Secondly, exercise improves our self-esteem, the way we look and gives us a sense of accomplishment. You don’t have to join a gym to exercise!

9) Sleep right

Not getting enough sleep or getting too much sleep affects the chemical activity in our brain leading to more disturbed mood, fatigue and irritability. Try getting at least 6 hours per night and no more than 9 hours per night. If you have difficulty falling asleep or experience sleep disturbance avoid alcohol and caffeine as much as you can, clear the clutter in your bedroom and do not bring any stressful triggers in your bedroom like bills, storage, conflict. Keep your room strictly for relaxation.

Laughter is healthy

10.)LAUGHTER

All of the comedians listed above have the right idea.

Laughter is like medicine for both the mind and the body.

Laughing is associated with happiness and friendships. Laughter brings people closer and creates intimacy across many cultures. It also helps us to physically relieve stress and relaxes our muscles for as long as 45 min after our laughing episode.

Laughing releases endorphins, leaving us feeling peppy and light. When you can laugh at yourself, your catastrophic and disastrous perception of your life can change and you may start  not taking yourself so seriously.

Keep in mind depression is a serious illness and these tips for alleviating depression are easier said than done for some people.

You may want to seek professional help such as a psychiatrist who can prescribe you anti-depressant medication at first to help get you moving. Then, you can see a psychologist, mental health counselor or any trained mental health professional to guide you through the suggestions listed above.

Influential Pot Users

1. Carl Sagan (November 9, 1934 – December 20, 1996) was an American astronomer, astrophysicist, cosmologist, author, science popularizer and science communicator in astronomy and natural sciences. Oh, and he was a confirmed and admitted stoner.

He published more than 600 scientific papersand articles and was author, co-author or editor of more than 20 books. He advocated scientifically skeptical inquiry and the scientific method, pioneered exobiology and promoted the Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence (SETI).

2. Terence McKenna (November 16, 1946 – April 3, 2000) was an American philosopher, psychonaut, researcher, teacher, lecturer and writer on many subjects, such as human consciousness, language, psychedelic drugs, the evolution of civilizations, the origin and end of the universe, alchemy, and extraterrestrial beings.

In 1969, McKenna traveled to Nepal led by his “interest in Tibetan painting and hallucinogenic shamanism.” During his time there, he studied the Tibetan language and worked as a hashish smuggler, until “one of his Bombay-to-Aspen shipments fell into the hands of U. S. Customs.” He was forced to move to avoid capture by Interpol.  He wandered through Southeast Asia viewing ruins, collected butterflies in Indonesia, and worked as an English teacher in Tokyo. He then went back to Berkeley to continue studying biology, which he called “his first love”

McKenna, his brother Dennis, and three friends traveled to the Colombian Amazon in search of oo-koo-hé, a plant preparation containing Dimethyltryptamine (DMT). Instead of oo-koo-hé they found various forms of ayahuasca, or yagé, and gigantic psilocybe cubensis which became the new focus of the expedition.  In La Chorrera, at the urging of his brother, he was the subject of a psychedelic experiment which he claimed put him in contact with “Logos“: an informative, divine voice he believed was universal to visionary religious experience. The voice’s reputed revelations and his brother’s simultaneous peculiar experience prompted him to explore the structure of an early form of the I Ching, which led to his “Novelty Theory”.

Ideas/Theories:

Terence McKenna advocated the exploration of altered states of mind via the ingestion of naturally occurring psychedelic substances. For example, and in particular, as facilitated by the ingestion of high doses of psychedelic mushrooms, and DMT, which he believed was the apotheosis of the psychedelic experience. He spoke of the “jeweled, self-dribbling basketballs” or “self-transforming machine elves” that one encounters in that state.

Although he avoided giving his allegiance to any one interpretation (part of his rejection of monotheism), he was open to the idea of psychedelics as being “trans-dimensional travel”; literally, enabling an individual to encounter what could be ancestors, or spirits of earth. He remained opposed to most forms of organized religion or guru-based forms of spiritual awakening.

Either philosophically or religiously, he expressed admiration for Marshall McLuhan, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, Gnostic Christianity, Alfred North Whitehead and Alchemy. McKenna always regarded the Greek philosopher Heraclitus as his favorite philosopher.

He also expressed admiration for the works of James Joyce (calling Finnegans Wake “the quintessential work of art, or at least work of literature of the 20th century”)and Vladimir Nabokov: McKenna once said that he would have become a Nabokov lecturer if he had never encountered psychedelics.

“Stoned Ape” theory of human evolution

In his book Food of the Gods,McKenna proposed that the transformation from humans’ early ancestors Homo erectus to the species Homo sapiens mainly had to do with the addition of the mushroom Psilocybe cubensis in its diet – an event which according to his theory took place in about 100,000 BC (this is when he believed that the species diverged from the Homo genus). He based his theory on the main effects, or alleged effects, produced by the mushroom. One of the effects that comes about from the ingestion of low doses, which agrees with one of scientist Roland Fischer’s findings from the late 1960s-early 1970s, is it significantly improves the visual acuity of humans – so theoretically, of other human-like mammals too. According to McKenna, this effect would have definitely proven to be of evolutionary advantage to humans’ omnivorous hunter-gatherer ancestors that would have stumbled upon it “accidentally”; as it would make it easier for them to hunt.

In higher doses, McKenna claims, the mushroom acts as a sexual stimulator, which would make it even more beneficial evolutionarily, as it would result in more offspring. At even higher doses, the mushroom would have acted to “dissolve boundaries”, which would have promoted community-bonding and group sexual activities-that would result in a mixing of genes and therefore greater genetic diversity. Generally McKenna believed that the periodic ingestion of the mushroom would have acted to dissolve the ego in humans before it ever got the chance to grow in destructive proportions. In this context, he likened the ego to a cancerous tumor that can grow uncontrollable and become destructive to its host. In his own words:

Wherever and whenever the ego function began to form, it was akin to a cancerous tumor or a blockage in the energy of the psyche. The use of psychedelic plants in a context of shamanic initiation dissolved-as it dissolves today-the knotted structure of the ego into undifferentiated feeling, what Eastern philosophy calls the Tao.
—Terence McKenna, Food of the Gods

The mushroom, according to McKenna, had also given humans their first truly religious experiences (which, as he believed, were the basis for the foundation of all subsequent religions to date). Another factor that McKenna talked about was the mushroom’s potency to promote linguistic thinking. This would have promoted vocalisation, which in turn would have acted in cleansing the brain (based on a scientific theory that vibrations from speaking cause the precipitation of impurities from the brain to the cerebrospinal fluid), which would further mutate the brain. All these factors according to McKenna were the most important factors that promoted evolution towards the Homo sapiens species. After this transformation took place, the species would have begun moving out of Africa to populate the rest of the planet. Later on, this theory by McKenna was given the name “The ‘Stoned Ape’ Theory of Human Evolution”

3. Sir Richard Branson is an English business mogul, best known for his Virgin Group of more than 400 companies.

His first successful business venture was a magazine called Student at age 16. In 1970, he set up an audio record mail-order business. In 1972, he opened a chain of record stores, Virgin Records, later known as Virgin Megastores. Branson’s Virgin brand grew rapidly during the 1980s, as he set up Virgin Atlantic Airways and expanded the Virgin Records music label.

Branson is the 4th richest citizen of the United Kingdom and 254th richest person in the world, according to the Forbes 2011 list of billionaires, with an estimated net worth of US $4.2 billion

in 2007 he smoked cannabis with his son Sam, a model, during a surfing holiday in Australia. “I went with my son on his gap year. We had some nights where we laughed our heads off for eight hours,” Branson said, adding, .”I don’t think smoking the occasional spliff is all that wrong. I’d rather my son did it in front of me than behind closed doors.” In the interview with Piers Morgan for GQmagazine, the entrepreneur also admitted trying cocaine and ecstasy.

Reportedly worth £5 billion, Branson says Rolling Stone Keith Richards was the “first person to teach me to roll a joint.” He said he had not tried the mythic super-strong “skunk” cannabis and insisted cannabis was okay “in moderation.” Branson is pro-hemp, and recently offered a cash prize for anyone who can come up with a carbon sequestering technology for his airline. Branson was among 100 prominent people who signed a public declaration in favor of the decriminalization of cannabis. They also included former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney, Body Shop founder Anita Roddick, and playwright Harold Pinter.

In 2001 Branson said that he would sell legalized cannabis in his Virgin stores but not tobacco because it is too dangerous. When asked about cannabis on a BBC2 interview he said: “I personally think it should be legalized. I think it’s wrong that 100,000 young people have criminal records every year for doing something which is no worse than their parents are doing every night—drinking alcohol.”

Branson recounts trying pot and LSD in his book, Losing My Virginity, but says he’s done drugs only “rarely.” In one instance, he took a joint so as not to appear ungrateful to the host who proffered it, and found out the next day that Dire Straits signed with another label.

4. Timothy Leary (October 22, 1920 – May 31, 1996) was an American psychologist and writer, known for his advocacy of psychedelic drugs. During a time when drugs like LSD and psilocybin were legal, Leary conducted experiments at Harvard University under the Harvard Psilocybin Project, resulting in the Concord Prison Experiment and the Marsh Chapel Experiment. Both studies produced useful data, but Leary and his associate Richard Alpert were fired from the university.

Leary believed LSD showed therapeutic potential for use in psychiatry. He popularized catchphrases that promoted his philosophy, such as “turn on, tune in, drop out“, “set and setting”, and “think for yourself and question authority”. He also wrote and spoke frequently about transhumanist concepts involving space migration, intelligence increase and life extension (SMI²LE), and he developed the eight-circuit model of consciousness in his book Exo-Psychology (1977).

During the 1960s and 1970s, Leary was arrested regularly and was held captive in 29 different prisons throughout the world. President Richard Nixon once described Leary as “the most dangerous man in America”.

Leary is often considered one of the most prominent figures during the counterculture of the 1960s, and since those times has remained incredibly influential on pop culture, literature, television, film; and especially music.

Timothy Leary’s ideas heavily influenced the work of Robert Anton Wilson. This influence went both ways and Leary admittedly took just as much from Wilson. Wilson’s book Prometheus Rising was an in depth, highly detailed and inclusive work documenting Leary’s eight circuit model of consciousness. Although the theory originated in discussions between Leary and a Hindu holy man at Millbrook, Wilson was one of the most ardent proponents of it and introduced the theory to a mainstream audience in 1977′s bestselling Cosmic Trigger. In 1989, they appeared together on stage in a dialog entitled The Inner Frontierin Cleveland, Ohio hosted by the Association for Consciousness Exploration,(the same group that had hosted Leary’s first Cleveland appearance in 1979). Wilson and Leary conversed a great deal on philosophical, political and futurist matters and became close friends who remained in contact through Leary’s time in prison and up until his death. Wilson regarded Leary as a brilliant man and often is quoted as saying (paraphrase) “Leary had a great deal of ‘hilaritas’, the type of cheer and good humour by which it was said you could recognise a deity”.

Owsley Stanley, one of the pioneers of the era, would later write of him:

Leary was a fool. Drunk with “celebrity-hood” and his own ego, he became a media clown—and was arguably the single most damaging actor involved in the destruction of the evanescent social movement of the ’60s. Tim, with his very public exhortations to the kids to “tune in, turn on and drop out”, is the inspiration for all the current draconian US drug laws against psychedelics. He would not listen to any of us when we asked him to please cool it, he loved the limelight and relished his notoriety… I was not a fan of his.

Author and Merry Prankster Ken Kesey remained a supporter and admirer of Leary throughout his career,

Leary can get a part of my mind that’s kind of rusted shut grinding again, just by being around him and talking.

World religion scholar Huston Smith was turned on by Leary after the two were introduced to one another by Aldous Huxley in the early 1960s. The experience was interpreted as deeply religious by Smith, and is captured in detailed religious terms in Smith’s later work Cleansing of the Doors of Perception. This was Smith’s one and only entheogenic experience, at the end of which he asked Leary, to paraphrase, if Leary knew the power and danger of that with which he was conducting research. In Mother Jones Magazine, 1997, Smith commented:

First, I have to say that during the three years I was involved with that Harvard study, LSD was not only legal but respectable. Before Tim went on his unfortunate careening course, it was a legitimate research project. Though I did find evidence that, when recounted, the experiences of the Harvard group and those of mystics were impossible to tell apart—descriptively indistinguishable—that’s not the last word. There is still a question about the truth of the disclosure.

The slogan, “Turn on, tune in, drop out”, signified a conceptual way of thinking wherein a person would turn on to their own way of thinking, tune in to themselves, and drop out of society. This constituted a concept of inward self reliance.

5. George Washington: Yeah, that’s right, the first recorded President of the United States. It is not known whether Washing smoked it or not, but he did cultivate the plant.

Washington’s diary reports that he separated males from females in his hemp garden, “rather too late.” Much speculation has ensued about whether or not Washington’s reason for sexing his plants was to make a more smokable product. One thing is for sure: hemp was grown in the US colonies as far back as Jamestown, with several colonies ordering their farmers to grow it. Thomas Paines’s pamphlet Common Sense lists hemp as the first requirement for revolution, writing that in the colonies “hemp flourishes almost to rankness.” Thomas Jefferson also grew hemp on his plantation and went to great lengths to smuggle hemp seeds out of China. Jared Eliot wrote, “I am informed by my worthy friend Benjamin Franklin, Esq., of Philadelphia, that they raise hemp upon their drained lands.

An Existential Examination of Snow

An Existential Examination of Snow

Think of a snowflake.

By itself it exists as a collection of water molecules, frozen into a hexagonal shape. It was created by a collision of forces, a development of opposing pressure systems—a child of attempted circumvention with chaotic afterthought. They can only be created under specific circumstances, and none of them are the same.

With each passing day, the world is different.

No matter how similar anything could be to the past, no scenario can be identical. There are just too many changing variables, outside influences—progressions.

Think of how we change the contours of the world every day. Buildings are torn down, ribbons are cut and new projects are started. Days get longer and we open our windows, or they get shorter and we burn the midnight oil. Babies are born, and people die. One day it is sunny, and the next, it snows.

Human life moves in a cycle, and water behaves the same way– all of our elements in a constant state of change.

The creation of snow is a process that includes a set variables, all elements of weather that, when combined correctly, create the perfect catalyst. These variables vary in their quality or quantity depending on the circumstances of the world. Whether we like it or not, our actions influence these variables because we are a variable in itself. We are a part of this world, just as the weather is and our forces influence others.

And think of how we are conceived—two bodies developed under different outside influences, bearing similar biological variables, colliding together in such a way that life is made.

I wonder, if a child was conceived in the snow, how much the temperature and conditions of the environment would affect the conception.

There is a reason why we are a part of this Earth. It is often forgotten that even though we are a civilized people, we are still very much a part of nature.

And our eyes are not keen enough to see the snowflakes for what they truly are—individual. Instead we see them as a collective body, a mass of thousands, falling to the ground and joining together. As the masses grow they become something else, a force that cannot be ignored. Snow stops traffic.

And who are we to say we cannot do the same?

Steve Jobs: The Billion Dollar Hippy

Steve Jobs, one of the most successful and creative innovators of the century was….a hippy?

Wait…what?

Yes, you heard that correctly.

Steve was a big tripper and he attributes a lot of his creativity and innovative powers to psychedelics.

Steve was also big into zen meditation.

Steve says taking LSD was one of the “most important things of his life.”

Steve Jobs: The Billion Dollar Hippy

Wow!

Now if you have been conditioned to believe that psychedelics are harmful and make people go crazy, this may seem a little nuts.

However, if you have done some independent research on psychedelics and maybe experimented yourself, you probably have realized already that all the propaganda that has been flooded into your brain is completely false.

Why is this?

It is because our government can’t have millions of people like Steve Jobs wandering it’s streets because they would have already been out of power.

I invite you today to sit down and watch this documentary that BBC has put together on Steve.

It is one of the best documentaries I have seen to date, and is certainly worth the hour of your time.

Merry Christmas! :)

Santa Tracker: The Tradition Continues

The North American Aerospace Defense Command, more popularly referred to as NORAD, has begun their annual tradition of tracking the whereabouts of Santa Claus as he travels the globe spreading Christmas cheer.  With over 1,200 volunteers and technology the would make any nerd blush, NORAD expects to recieve over 80,000 calls this Christmas Eve from people all wondering the same thing, where is Santa Claus right now?

This lighthearted holiday tradition all began as a simple mistake (don’t all great ideas?) when a Colorado area newspaper misprinted a Sears ad promoting a hotline where kids could call Santa.  As a result of the typo, thousands of wide eyed children hoping to speak to Mr. Claus himself were instead shocked when the phone was answered by the Colorado based CONAD (NORAD’s predecessor).  As you can imagine, the officers manning the phones at the Aerospace Defense were equally surprised and some jokingly began to play along.  This innocent mistake, that could have easily been chalked up as an unfortunate typo and discontinued, gave way to a tradition that has now lasted over half a century.

As they do every year, NORAD expects to set new all-time highs this Christmas season.  The Santa tracking website has already had more than 2.2 million unique visitors and that’s as we only begin to enter the system’s busiest 48 hour period.  In addition to the hundred of telephones and wildly popular website, NORAD has introduce apps for both the iPhone and Android operating systems.  As of mid-December, the app had been downloaded over 234,000 times from the iTunes App Store and the Android Market.  So make sure you keep an eye on Santa’s whereabouts and time your baking accordingly, I have a hunch that ole Kris Kringle prefers his cookies fresh out of the oven and his milk still ice cold.

Dr. Michio Kaku: “The World in 2030″

A great perspective of what the world is going to be like in a few years.

Skip ahead to 5:27, because the gentlemen introducing Kaku apparently has no idea who he is and has to look at his papers to figure out his credentials.

Pretty pathetic.

This video is a little on the long side, but if you can spare an hour to figure out how your future is going to look like, it is certainly worth it.

Geocaching: The Never Ending Treasure Hunt

Geocaching is in almost every town in the United States and is slowly sweeping the entire world one treasure hunt at a time.

What is Geocaching?

Geocaching is a worldwide phenomenon by which individuals hide pieces of treasure in containers and players try to locate those containers. Once players have found the treasure within the containers they are supposed to take it and replace it with something of equal value. There are several clues and hints people leave behind in order to have their treasure found.
