Chefchaouen is an Entirely Blue City

Chefchaouen is a small beautiful city with a population of about 40,000, located in northeastern Morocco near the Mediterranean Sea.
The city was founded in 1471 in the Rif Mountains, just inland from Tangiera and Tetouan and used as a fortress which still exists today. The fortress was built to fight the invasions of the Portuguese of Northern Morocco. This town is the embodiment of almost every Moroccan cliché. The picturesque medina, set against the dramatic backdrop of the Rif Mountains, is filled with white-washed homes with distinctive Blue walls everywhere!
