Meet SKA: The 3,000 Mile Long Super-Telescope

The Square Kilometer Array (SKA) will be the world’s largest and most sensitive radio telescope when it is completed.

Using Interferometry, which is the linking together of radio telescopes to create a larger virtual telescope known as an Interferometer, the SKA will combine thousands of linked radio wave receptors that will be located in Australia and Southern Africa. Ten countries across these two continents will share the location of this mind-boggling project.

ALL SIGNALS FROM THE ANTENNAS IN EACH REGION WILL COMBINE and create a collecting area equivalent to A DISH WITH AN AREA OF ABOUT 1,000,000 METERS. Read more of this post

I’m sure most of you read up on the exciting news releases of Googles’ terminator style glasses called Google Glass. After reading a couple of really long articles about all of its features, I have to admit, I was pretty interested – but I would never buy them. The reason being that they just look ridiculous and all of the things that can go wrong while wearing them are too embarrassing. I truly don’t believe that they will ever perfect this idea, but most of the population will still buy a pair just to say that they have them.

Biochemist Creates CO2-Eating Light That Runs on Algae (VIDEO)

Our atmosphere is filling up with CO₂ and we seem to be the major cause of that. The generally accepted solution seems to be cutting back on emissions as quickly as possible, but implementing such cuts is problematic because everyone has to agree to do more, which essentially ends up costing a lot of time and money.

There is an alternative to such measures, though. Instead of relying entirely on cutting emissions, why don’t we start taking CO₂ out of the atmosphere? That’s exactly what biochemist Pierre Calleja is trying to do, and his solution almost sounds too good to be true.

Calleja has developed a lighting system that requires no electricity for power. Instead it draws CO₂ from the atmosphere and uses it to produce light as well as oxygen as a byproduct. The key ingredient to this eco-friendly light? Algae. Read more of this post

Meet ARGUS-IS: The World’s Highest Resolution Surveillance System

DARPA and the US Army have taken the wraps off ARGUS-IS, a 1.8-gigapixel video surveillance platform that can resolve details as small as six inches from an altitude of 20,000 feet (6km). ARGUS is by far the highest-resolution surveillance platform in the world, and probably the highest-resolution camera in the world, period.

ARGUS, which would be attached to some kind of unmanned UAV (such as the Predator) and flown at an altitude of around 20,000 feet, can observe an area of 25 square kilometers (10sqmi) at any one time. If ARGUS was hovering over New York City, it could observe half of Manhattan. Two ARGUS-equipped drones, and the US could keep an eye on the entirety of Manhattan, 24/7. Read more of this post

Amazing Indoor Ski Resort

Danish architectural studio Cebra announced the project of building the world’s largest indoor ski resort. Denmark has no elevated mountains because of its location in the northern region, so they decided to design this resort. The architects proposed a six-pointed “snowflake” of three bridges, crossed at equal angles in Randers.
