The Way to Live Positively

ThomasMcGregor

Positive thinking is not just something for the meditator or religious person. Positive thinking is a power aspect of our existence that needs to be utilized more often as our world becomes more complex and technologically advanced. Reality is all about perception and how we view the world. Do you look for the negative in a situation or the positive? Do you think the way you view a situation impacts it’s outcome? positive Is it what you perceive it to be? If situations are all truly in our heads, then we hold a massive power to influence our environment and the people in it. A positive outlook can completely change the way a situation presents itself. The question is, what is the full range of benefits that stem from thinking positively on a regular basis?

The First Steps

We spend a lot of time in our heads. We plan, think, worry, and attempt to make each situation according to the way we see it in our heads. A lot of the time we find that the outside world doesn’t always fit to our inner point of view. This results in a conflict in interest between the inner and outer worlds. What should we do when we reach a situation where we find a conflict? When you are a genrally positive person you don’t try to cover up the negative with the positive, you embrace the situation looking for the positive approach. The central idea is that you work towards converting the negative ways you have acted in the past into positive reactions. By establishing this core mentality you will be able to tackle the struggles life pitches your way with the strength and confidence you’ll need to overcome them.

You may be asking why you should work on this conversion. Why should you be positive? For starters, the research shows mental, physical, and environmental benefits when individuals striving for a positive ways of living. Some of the healthiest people in the world have a realistically positive outlook on the world. From the boosting of the immune system to an all around mental health. When you’re mentally in good health you are in a position to keep your focus, reserving your energy for when you need it most.

Keeping Positive

Even if you are a very  busy person, there are some simple ways to cultivate a positive attitude.

  • Quiet Time: Commit to quiet time every morning and every night for reflection and contemplation. This will allow you time to completely clear your mind of worry and stresses from the day. When we are trying to cultivate a positive attitude, sometimes we need to alter the way we internalize the happenings from the day. When we take quiet time do mentally detox, we give our mind space to be thankful for what we have.
  • Healthy Eating: By keeping a healthy body we allow our body to biochemically align. When this happens, toxins release and our mind will start to clear. This will give us a clean slate to start our positive outlook.
  • Smile: Smile at everything and everyone you can. When your tire blows out, smile. When the waiter messes up your order, smile. The important thing to remember is to genuinely smile. Don’t just smile because you know you should, smile because you refuse to be influenced by a hiccup in the plans you had.
  • Forgive Yourself and Others: Be the first to forgive after a mishap of some kind. If you are to blame, or you are blaming yourself, make sure to forgive yourself immediately. Don’t allow the momentary road bump to ruin your day. Forgive and forget.
  • Stifle Negativity: Don’t allow other individuals or situation control the way you look at them. If a situation is “historically” negative, look for where there is positive. For side there is a flip side. Meaning, if there is a negative side to something there is a equal or greater positive site as well.
