Is Facebook an Ultimate Expression of Narcissism? (VIDEO)

While most people believe Facebook connects them with the rest of the world, is it actually DISCONNECTING them from society, real life and real friends? Is Facebook just an ultimate expression of narcissism ? A one big “look at me fest?” Should we delete our Facebook accounts?
This video might change your mind.

I disagree 100% with the commenter above, who talks about what a great tool Facebook can be for the socially savvy. FB, and Twitter, and all the other “social media,” are simply shortcuts for people to stroke their own egos — see how important I am! I’ve deactivated, and plan to stay that way until my next niece or nephew is born, then I’ll reactivate for their first year, period. Thanks for the impetus.
Definitely a double-edged sword, facebook is a social utility which provides the user a myriad of paths in which to experience the platform. It may have certain addictive elements built in and a significant user base creating “bad culture” but for the smart curator of relationships and information it can be a wonderful tool for maintaining and even strengthening your social network. Just don’t fall into the bullshit, and unplug as often as you like.
I agree with the double-edged sword theory. My main concern is the children growing up today and their social skills. Kids today are glued to their Xbox 360s talking to their friends via head sets and/or communicating via Facebook and other social media networks. I am not against Facebook (I do have one), but I believe children of today will not have great social skills or communication skills when they are looking for jobs down the line.
I hear what you’re saying and think you’re right 100%, all the relationships I enjoy with people online have a strong basis in my real life offline. I wouldn’t say its impossible to create a true bond through digital connecting but it certainly has a different tone. You couldn’t feel as close to your old guild as you would to your old teammates. As for kids down the line, well good luck to them if our current economy is any signpost of where we’re heading, good luck to them!
