Movie Scenes That We Didn’t Understand as Kids – Part I
June 15, 2012 1 Comment
When we were kids, there were scenes in movies that made absolutely no sense to us. We probably watched these movies a million times, but just couldn’t comprehend what was going on. Some of us might have been curious and asked our parents what was going on, but sadly, they lied to us.
This article will make sense depending on how old you were when you first watched these movies.
Ace Ventura: Pet Detective: Girl Goes Down on Ace
When the movie first begins, Ace is on a mission to save a dog from a grumpy abusive owner and give it to its other owner. After disguising as a UPS delivery guy and stealing the dog from the beastly owner, he returns it to the very sexy lady that hired him. She tells him how happy and thankful she is, and then she drops to the floor and disappears. Ace clings onto a pole and starts waving all over the room in what seems to be pain (No, it was not pain at all).
Depending on how old you are, you had NO IDEA what was going on in this scene.
Why is she biting his feet? Why is Ace dancing in pain? What is going onnnn???!!!
Oh, I get it now!
There’s Something About Mary: “Hair Gel” Scene
Let me start this by making it clear that I was 9 when this movie came out.
The entire scene made no sense to me. Ben Stiller goes into the bathroom to do God knows what. All the adults were hysterical laughing as I sat there completely clueless.
He seemed to finish what he was doing, and then he starts looking for some mysterious object. Cameron Diaz comes up to the bathroom and finds “hair gel” on his ear. She takes it and puts it in her hair like a complete moron. Ben Stiller than has to go out on a date with her while his “gel” is in her hair.
We all laughed because her hair looked funny, but we didn’t really know what that “gel” was.
We had no idea what Ben Stiller was doing in the bathroom.
Me:“Mom, what is he doing?”
Mom: “He’s scratching his leg.”
Me: “Oh, he must be really itchy.”
Oh, now I get it!
The Mask: Stanley Ipkiss was a Murderer?
The mask was my idol when this movie came out. I’m sure every kid wanted to be him, or just have access to that amazing green mask.
When watching this movie, you see whats going on through Stanley Ipkiss’ perspective. Stanley Ipkiss (Jim Carrey) is a broke banker, and nothing goes right for him. Whether its his car breaking down, his dog annoying him, or a car soaking him with water, Ipkiss is on the verge of giving up. You start to feel bad for him, and you automatically take his side (you always take Jim Carreys side). When he discovers the mask, his life drastically changes.
But what us kids didn’t realize was that it changed for the worse. Not only did he rob a bank, but he KILLED PEOPLE.
Yes, he was able to do really cool things with his body and with party balloons, but he was a murderer.
Do you remember the scene when the car mechanics ruined Stanley Ipkiss’ car?
He doesn’t just hurt the car mechanics, he brutally murders them with exhaust pipes.
This video doesn’t show the entire scene, but pay attention the next time you watch the movie.
Yea, he’s just as bad as Michael Myers and Jason Vorhees.
