The Mystery of Plum Island

Remember the Montauk Monster?
In July of 2008, a deceased animal of undetermined species washed up along the shorelines of Montauk, New York. Wide speculation was created as to where this creature came from, but many theorists pointed to Plum Island, and the nearby Plum Island Animal Disease Center. Plans are now in the works to move this disease center smack into the middle of American mainland, sparking controversy amongst outraged citizens.
Plum Island is an island in the Town of Southhold in Suffolk County, New York. The island spans a mere 3 miles long, and 1 mile wide at its widest point. Plum Island is owned by the United States Government, and access is controlled and restricted to all individuals by the United States Department of Homeland Security.
“Plum Island uses biolevel 3 safety measure for biocontainment. Some of the measures include negative pressurization labs and employees being required to take showers. Plum Island has been actively seeking an upgrade to biolevel 4. A biolevel 4 facility would entail self-contained respirator suits and pathogens for which there are no known cures or vaccines. This also would enable them to work with zoontic diseases. A zoontoic disease is a disease that can jump the species barrier, or simply a disease of animals that would also be able to infect humans. Theoretically, Plum Island would be able to work with Ebola and other virulent viruses and bacteria.” – via Rense
You might be familiar with Lyme Disease.
In 1975, a mystery illness broke out just a short distance away from Plum Island in the town of Old Lyme, Connecticut. This mystery illness was coined Lyme Disease. Cases would soon pop up all over the Northeast, and officials quickly determined that the disease could only be cause by one thing, deer ticks. Coincidentally, back in 1952, The Joint Chiefs of Staff authorized a project that allowed germ warfare research to be done at the Plum Island Animal Disease Center, specifically on birds and ticks.
Along with the Montauk Monster and the spread of Lyme, in 2010 a mutated body washed ashore at Plum Island. Police were called out to the island to investigate after maintenance workers dialed 911. According to police reports, the body had “elongated fingers, webbed digits in some areas, and five holes drilled into the skull.” The Police initially reported the body to be that of a white male, but the very next day the report was changed to say the body was that of a black male. Tough to mix that up. The investigation was turned over the the FBI and no information has been released since, how convenient.
No one knows for sure what is really being tested here, or if the research goes beyond testing into creating diseases. To move an animal disease center onto the homeland would be a disastrous choice, especially if an epidemic outbreak occurred. The center would not be isolated, and the outbreak could spread much more rapidly than it could from an isolated island.
Continued testing and research done on ticks, animals and possibly even humans will of course be under top secret, so we will never know. I trust that nothing will get out of hand…
Long Island native and lawyer Michael Carrol talks about his work entitled “Lab 257.” Carrol spent five years researching the secretive government installation at Plum Island:
