Fantasy Baseball with PhdinWeed: Week 7 recap, Week 8 Preview

Another week, another victory for Fister? Barely Knew Her. This week was expected to be much tougher than it ended up, thanks mostly to my opponent’s starting pitching not doing much. Final score was Fister 341, Cardinals 272.
In review, my victory stemmed in large part from the offense, most notably Ryan Braun and Justin Upton, but also Billy “Country Breakfast” Butler. As far as the pitching staff goes, Ryan Vogelsong pitched well enough to win twice, but only ended up getting one victory. His line for the week: 14 IP, 4 Hits Against, 6 Walks, 8 K, and only 1 Earned Run. It is for this reason he is this week’s MVP. As a contrast, this week’s LVP is Mike Napoli, who managed 2 singles and a walk in 20 AB’s.
The injury bug hit me hard this week as well. My week 7 pickup of Tim Stauffer was ill-advised, as he was placed back on the DL after his start. In addition, Emilio Bonifacio AND Brandon McCarthy also hit the DL. Adds to the team for this week were Ian Desmond and Jed Lowrie. These moves were necessary because the Red Sox are going to send Will Middlebrooks back to AAA in favor of Kevin Youkilis and Bonifacio’s injury.
If you’re looking for lightning in a bottle, by all means go out and get Matt Adams from St. Louis NOW. This kid has light-tower power, and with Lance Berkman’s possible career-ending injury, he is a possible impact bat. Be warned, however, that he may split at-bats with Allen Craig when he finishes his DL stint. If you need help at the catcher spot, Jonathan Lucroy is mashing the ball and could be coming into his own. Aroldis Chapman has been names as the Reds’ closer, so scoop him up if he’s unowned.
