Fantasy Baseball with PhDinWeed: Week 6 Recap, Week 7 Preview

It seems like I am forever apologizing in these columns, and must do so again. As I am the father of 2 autistic kids and also hold down 2 jobs, this column kind of fell by the wayside this week. The format is a little different, as I did not document things day by day.
The opponent: Reginald Denny’s Traveling All Stars. I was intially quite nervous heading into this matchup, as my opponent had more starts from his pitching staff than I did. However, good fortune smiled upon me (again) when Javy Guerra was demoted from the closer role for the Dodgers after lineups locked. Good fortune continued to smile upon me when Troy Tulowitzki missed a few games with a nagging injury, and late in the week, Mark Reynolds went on the DL. In addition, his two starts from Joe Saunders actually COST him 3 points.
However, let it not be said that I did not deserve to win. Even with Jose Altuve, Eric Hosmer, and Justin Upton doing absolutely nothing this week, Will Middlebrooks (3 doubles, 3 HR, 9 RBI), Melky Cabrera (13-26, 2 doubles, a triple, a homer, 4 RBI, 5 runs), and Ryan Braun (a double, 2 HR, 3 RBI, 6 runs, a stolen base and six walks) led the offensive charge while my pitching staff only allowed 8 earned runs over 43.2 innings pitched. The final score was 347-272. MVP honors go to Will Middlebrooks, while Justin Upton takes home the LVP this week.
What’s in store for week 7? I am going up against a very good team in the Carlos Cardinals. They have 2 starts from Steven Strasburg, Ryan Dempster, and Ross Detwiler, which could conceivable put me in a big hole. I am making no changes to the lineup, but I did pick up Tim Stauffer, who is in line for 2 starts this week. Underowned starters you may be able to pick up also include Derek Lowe and Paul Maholm. On the offensive side of things, possible pickups include Alcides Escobar for those of you hurting for SS help, Allan Craig of the Cardinals, and Jonathan Lucroy of the Brewers.
I promise to return this column to its former splendor next week. Don’t forget to follow me on Twitter @phdinweed and always feel free to ask me any fantasy baseball related questions!
