Show “Love” For the MVP!

With the NBA season coming to its final stretch of games, a new name has emerged as one of my favorites for NBA MVP, Kevin Love. Love is currently averaging 26.5 PPG, 13.8 RPG with 2 APG, and shooting 45% from the field.
Those are DOMINANT numbers and he is the key to the Timberwolves surprising turnaround this season as the team is fighting for a playoff spot with a 25-28 record. Love is the most valuable player to his team filled with inexperience and a lack of depth.
Can you name a starter on the Timberwolves roster besides Ricky Rubio?
I thought so..
Love has 45 Double-Doubles this season in 53 games played and with 13 games remaining, I expect that number to only rise. What makes Love’s season so special is that he is really the only threat to an opposing team’s defense.
The 2nd leader scorer and rebounder on the team is Center Nikola Pekovic (13.5 PPG and 7.4 RPG)
If you do not know who that is its OK, neither do the 95% of other NBA Fans.
Love does not have a “wingman” or another “big man” to help him out. He is the team’s leading scorer, rebounder, and 2nd on his team in 3-point shooting percentage.
He literally does EVERYTHING.
However, it will be an uphill climb for Kevin Love to attain the MVP because there are two major obstacles in his way.
1.) His team’s record – Being 25-28 and 3.5 Games behind the Denver Nuggets for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference is a tough sell for any voting for MVP.
2.) Other Players that are having more success – (LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Kobe Bryant, and Chris Paul)
Despite that, I still STRONGLY believe Kevin Love should be the MVP.
The Win/Loss numbers against his competition are not good, as the Timberwolves are 3-7 against other MVP Candidates:
Heat (0-1), Clippers (3-0), Lakers (0-4 Love Did not play in 2 games), and Thunder (0-2).
However, in those games Love’s numbers are RIDICULOUS
Love averaged 28 PPG, and 13 RPG in the games he played which included a 51 point and 14 rebounds performance against the Thunder in a 149-140 loss.
I know most fans think the best player on the best team wins the MVP, but there have been instances where this “myth” has been busted.
For example, in Baseball, Alex Rodriguez won the MVP with the Texas Rangers in 2003 and his team was DEAD LAST in the standings. In Football, Barry Sanders won the MVP in 1997 and his team was 9-7 and in 3rd place in the NFC Central.
I know the instances are rare, but the production Kevin Love has given with the lack of production around him is also rare.
However, as of now the NBA has NEVER given an MVP to a player when his team has not made the playoffs. This is a trend that MUST be broken and it should be broken by Kevin Love.
Despite that, there are still 13 games remaining and the Timberwolves are still very much in the playoff hunt and if they were to make the playoffs I feel that Kevin Love deserves the MVP without a doubt.
I’ll give you three more reasons why Kevin Love should be MVP..
Does Kevin Love have a point guard of Russell Westbrook’s dominance and TEAM depth like Kevin Durant?
Does Kevin Love have an all-star supporting cast around him which includes DWAYNE WADE and CHRIS BOSH like LeBron does?
Does Kevin Love have two 7 footers like Bynum and Gasol controlling the boards and demanding double teams like Kobe does?
The obvious answer to all three questions is NO..
That’s because Kevin Love is the rebounding presence, he is the scoring presences and he is the CLOSER for his team. In fact, Kevin Love does EVERYTHING for his team and he is the sole reason why they are even in contention.
It’s time we show love to Mr. Love..
