DMT: The Spirit Molecule

“1000 years of experience, in 15 minutes.”

This was a quote taken from one of the most interesting documentaries I have watched to date.

The documentary is called DMT: The Spirit Molecule.

There is also a book associated with the documentary titled DMT: The Spirit Molecule: A Doctor’s Revolutionary Research into the Biology of Near-Death and Mystical Experiences.

An excerpt from Wikipedia on DMT:

“N,N-Dimethyltryptamine (DMT) is a naturally occurring psychedelic compound of the tryptamine family. DMT is ubiquitously found in plants[3] and also in trace amounts in mammals, including humans, where it may putatively function as a trace amine neurotransmitter[4]. It is originally derived from the essential amino acid tryptophan and ultimately produced by the enzyme INMT during normal metabolism.[5] The natural significance of its widespread presence remains undetermined. Structurally, DMT is analogous to the neurotransmitter serotonin (5-HT), the hormone melatonin, and other psychedelic tryptamines, such as 5-MeO-DMT, bufotenin, and psilocin (the active metabolite of psilocybin).

In some cultures DMT is ingested as a psychedelic drug (in either extracted or synthesized forms).[6] When DMT is inhaled or consumed, depending on the dose, its subjective effects can range from short-lived milder psychedelic states to powerful immersive experiences, including a total loss of connection to conventional reality, which may be so extreme that it becomes ineffable.[7] DMT is also the primary psychoactive in ayahuasca, an Amazonian Amerindian brew employed for divinatory and healing purposes. Pharmacologically, ayahuasca combines DMT with an MAOI, an enzyme inhibitor that allows DMT to be orally active.

What amazed me right off the bat when I first became interested in DMT and psychedelic substances is how they are not as mainstream as they should be. These substances are our connection to the after-life essentially, and as a society, we seem to not have as much interest in them as we should. We seem too concerned about what our favorite celebrities and sports stars are up to instead.

Psychedelic substances aren’t killing anyone.

Period.

All your knowledge before this point is all based on bullshit propaganda that governments and special interest groups expose to you on a daily basis without your knowledge.

DMT: The Spirit Molecule (Book Version)

I used to think the same way.

I used to think that all drugs were bad, and that you shouldn’t be experimenting with them. While there are some very harmful drugs out there such as meth and heroine, psychedelic substances are in a whole different realm.

Taken in a shamanistic way, psychedelics can teach you a lot about yourself, about your perceived reality, and teach you essentially what the BIG PICTURE is all about. Essentially what the ENTIRE UNIVERSE is all about.

Just ask Steve Jobs about his experiences with psychedelics.

Must be real harmful! 🙂

The documentary features a great cast of knowledgeable scientists, professors, spiritual guru’s and one of my favorite people on the planet, Joe Rogan.

If you watch the documentary on Netflix or Amazon, you will certainly have a whole new view of reality after.

I did after I read the book, and after seeing the documentary, I can say that my whole life up to this point has been programmed by culture.

No longer do I let culture affect my belief system.

If everyone knew the power of DMT and other psychedelic substances, we might actually have a peaceful world to live in. 🙂

I find it sad that our society knows more about a bunch of strangers (celebrities) than tangible things that we can actually see, feel and utilize. I also find it sad that we do not hear enough about things like this.

A friend of mine used DMT, without knowing anything about it, and smoked far too much. She really freaked out A LOT, despite having used several other types of hallucinogens in the past. On the other hand, I have not experimented with such drugs- yet I knew way more about the subject than she did because I did the research.

People believe that keeping people informed will only encourage them. I believe that people will do it anyway, but they might as well KNOW what they are doing. Erowid.org is one of the greatest sites out there, IMO. Great post, thanks for sharing !

  5. I am very interested in DMT, ever since Terence McKenna did his research into it. However, your post reminds me of how everyone who took LSD, including myself, thought that LSD had changed everything in our lives, and we would never be programmed by culture again. This is nonsense. LSD and DMT opens you up to a new uncanny experience which is ineffable. The fact that it is ineffable means we don’t actually understand it. It feels like the answer to everything but when called upon to give that answer we are left with mystical generalities. This is because our language is insufficient to deal with this new experience. I don’t mean to put it all down by any means. But the bad news is that you are still being programmed and sucked in by propaganda, in spite of what you may think. You have been sucked into the propaganda surrounding DMT. There isn’t necessarily any reason to think it has anything whatsoever to do with the after-life. That is a conclusion that is attached after the experience. The experience is something we don’t have a handle on yet. It is very premature to jump to conclusions about psychedelic experiences of any kind. DMT is not the answer to all of the world’s problems. Also to say that all knowledge prior to DMT is cultural propaganda is absurd. I agree with much of what you say but you are exaggerating like many people new to psychedelics do. I felt the same way about LSD.

I appreciate your input wise one. 🙂 I am fairly new to them but believe STRONGLY in their humbling powers and what they could do for the human race as a whole. There should be shamans available for anyone who wants to safely experiment with them. In our wretched society today, that is unfortunately never going to be the case.
