Professor Buries His Students Alive

Professor Qiu Daneng has a very bizarre method of teaching his students how to appreciate life.

He treats his medical students as if they are actual dead bodies, and buries them. He believes that this will make them appreciate every aspect of their lives.

This practice takes place at Taiwan’s Rende Medical College.

On the first day of class, professor Daneng makes his students write out their testaments. He then puts his students in a casket one at a time and lowers them into cavities under the floor. They are left in the ground for 10 minutes. In these 10 minutes, the students are supposed to gain insight on death.

Professor Qiu Daneng buries his students so that they will appreciate life more

His main goal is to have his students appreciate life so much that they will do their absolute best job in keeping their patient’s alive.

According to some of his students, his insane method works.

“I felt like I was reborn when I came out and now I know that every second counts in life.” said Xiao Lin, a student who agrees with his professors insane teaching methods.

10 minutes may sound like a short amount of time, but imagine being in a closed casket in the ground for just one minute?

This practice would obviously not fly in a majority of the United States.

I honestly don’t agree with this psycho. How can burying someone make them appreciate their life more?

Personally, I would panic from being in such a small box in the ground and I wouldn’t last for more than a minute. That class would immediately be dropped, and if it was too late I would take the Withdrawal mark (or even an F).

  1. It’s a pretty radical method to teach how to appreciate life. I would prefer other less dramatic methods. Like going to the bottom of a dry well (Haruki Murakami, The Windup Bird Chronicles) or meditating at night in the middle of a cemetery. (never tried myself though) Being locked in a coffin, I would have a major panic attack.

Sounds like a great methodology to me. You’re right, most places in the U.S. would never allow this, but I think its a good idea. Too many doctors are in it only for the money and this would make them appreciate what their goal should really be when treating their patients.

I thought this must be a joke when I first started reading it ! Glad I will never be attending any of his classes cos it would freak me out good and proper !!!.

I know now I would Freak out if put in there for even a minute. 10 Minutes!, no way. I can see how it may make you appreciate life but not everyone will appreciate the method used. 🙂

  5. Wooooooooooooooo — scare me to death, but at least I’ll be in the right place!! 😎

I was fascinated by this blog. But, there must be a joke someplace.
I was placed in an MRI when I was 50—-been around the world, but I panicked. Could not breathe.
