The Ideal 2011 NFL Dream Team

In the off-season backup quarterback Vince Young, of the 5-8 Philadelphia Eagles, claimed that the Eagles were the NFL’s “Dream Team”.

As you can see Vince Young was very wrong.

So here’s the REAL “Dream Team” of 2011:

QB: Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers: With 39 TDs, 6 Ints, Rodgers is dominating the league. He has the Packers at 13-0. The only other quarterback I’d want other than Rodgers right now is Tom Brady. You can make an argument for both but Rodgers is playing on the highest level right.

RB: LeSean McCoy, Philadelphia Eagles: 3rd year pro LeSean McCoy is having a breakout season on an O.K team. So far this season he has 1,172 rushing yards, averaging 4.8 yards a carry, 14 rushing touchdowns, and 3 receiving touchdowns. 17 TD’s total in 13 games. He’s elusive and extremely fast, just like the rest of the Eagles. McCoy, who can also catch the ball very well for a RB, is the main weapon on an extremely star packed offense.

FB: Vonta Leach, Baltimore Ravens: Fullback seems to be a boring position yet are very important to a team running game. Vonta Leach has done a phenomenal job running in front of both Arian Foster in Houston and Ray Rice in Baltimore. Both of them surpassed 1000 yards running behind Leach.

WR1: Wes Welker, New England Patriots: The ideal slot receiver. Wes has been doing what he does for years: SHREDDING helpless defenses. He’s the only WR with 100 catches so far and has the most receiving yards with 1,339. 9 TD’s with still 3 games to go. Need i say more?

WR2: Calvin Johnson Jr, Detroit Lions: A.k.a Megatron. At 6’5 236lbs, Johnson is a BEAST! He’s Randy Moss with a better attitude. 72 receptions, 1,121 receiving yards, and 12 TD’s. Not many CB’s can come close to matching up with Megatron. His size and athleticism is a rare feat in the NFL and he is proving why those 2 features in a player are so cherished amongst NFL general mangers and coaches.

WR3: Greg Jennings, Green Bay Packers: You can’t not give Aaron Rodgers one of his favorite targets from GB. Greg Jennings isn’t the biggest receiver but, he is a deep threat who has been burning secondaries his entire career. Brings great chemistry when paired with Rodgers. 9TD’s, 67 receptions, 949 receiving yards.

TE: Rob Gronkowski, New England Patriots: Rob Gronkowski’s historical season continues everybody! Gronk has been TEARING IT UP this season! 71 receptions, 1,088  receiving yards, 15 receiving TD’s, and 1 rushing TD. All the guy does is catch footballs and score. He’s a MACHINE! He’s already broke the record for most TD’s for a TE in NFL history still with 3 games left to play. Jimmy Graham is the only other TE I would want starting on my Dream Team.

Offensive Line: San Francisco 49er’s: The 9ers are having an all-around great year and their o-line is one of a few solid offensive lines in the NFL this year. I chose them because they represent ground and pound football and can also protect their QB Alex Smith, giving him the opportunity to turn his career around this year.

DE1: Jared Allen, Minnesota Vikings: Leading the league in sacks with 17.5 and 55 total tackles. He’s been doing it constantly throughout his career. I don’t think anyone can disagree.

DE2: Jason Pierre-Paul, New York Giants: 2nd year BEAST (6-5, 278lbs) out of South Florida. He has 61 tackles, 12.5 sacks, a safety, and 2 forced fumbles. Relentless pass rusher who WILL get to the quarterback.

DT: Vince Wilfork, New England Patriots: 6’2, 323lbs. Any team can benefit from Wilforks size and power. Along with his mean attitude(voted one of the NFL’s meanest players), Wilfork plugs up the middle of the D-line and eats running backs for breakfast. The Lions Ndamukong Suh would also be a perfect fit for the real Dream Teams DT.

OLB: DeMarcus Ware, Dallas Cowboys: 15 sacks on the season, 46 total tackles. At 6’4 260lbs he is a rare combination of speed and strength. He’s been to the pro-bowl multiple times. I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t want DeMarcus Ware lining up at OLB on their defense.

MLB: D’Qwell Jackson, Cleveland Browns:  Jackson is having a solid year, leading the NFL in total tackles with 91. He also has 3.5 sacks. I always want a fast tackle machine at MLB on my D. Patrick Willis is also another strong candidate for MLB but isn’t having the same kind of year D’Qwell is.

OLB: Terrell Suggs, Baltimore Ravens: Love his intensity and relentlessness. He is the definition of a defensive player. 41 total tackles, 13 sacks, 7 passes deflected, 2 interceptions, and 6 forced fumbles. Suggs is deadly off the edge.

CB1: Darrelle Revis, New York Jets: The “shutdown corner back” is a dying breed in the NFL and Revis is the best corner in the game hands down. Check the hit-list of WR’s that have been shut-down. It includes the best WR’s in the game. REVIS ISLAND.

CB1: Charles Woodson, Green Bay Packers: Most likely the 2nd best corner in the game to Revis. Woodson has been doing it longer though. 50 total tackles and 7 INT’s. He’s been a ball-hawk since day one.

SS: Troy Polamalu, Pittsburgh Steelers: A.k.a The Tasmanian Devil. Polamalu is the trickiest player in all of football. You never know where he is going to be. He has the freedom to do whatever he feels like. 76 Tackles and 1 INT on the year. Teams have been trying not to throw his way…he usually comes up with the ball.

FS: Ed Reed, Baltimore Ravens: 2 words: BALL-HAWK. He’s a future hall of famer that WILL get the ball. The guy is a human highlight reel! 43 tackles, 1 forced fumble, and 3 INT’s on the year.
