Make Better Decisions: Think of Yourself In The Third Person

You will find yourself making better decisions when you think of yourself in the third person.

It sounds egotistic, but it isn’t. That’s if you use it as a self development technique.

Sort of narrate your day every now and than and think to yourself in the third person. If you’re about to do something you wouldn’t be proud of and you stop to narrate your life for a moment, you can prevent yourself from making a negative/stupid decision.

Even if you aren’t about to lose half of your salary in Vegas, this technique can still come in handy:

When I first started using the Third Person Technique, I’m not going to lie, it was kind of weird. I constantly reminded myself that even though it was an awkward thing to do, it would eventually help improve the way I would live my life.

Think before you act. It sounds so simple but so many of us forget to do it. Since we were kids we’ve known that our actions speak louder than our words.

If you’re about to say something that will have an impact on someone else, go to the third person method. Have the conversation you’re about to have in your head. If someone else would say what you were about to say, and you’re reaction would be “Wow, I can’t believe he said that to her!” ….you probably should change the way how you’re going to approach the situation.

It’s like looking at yourself in the mirror. Everyone is judged by their actions and you don’t want to come off the wrong way because you overreacted out of a useless emotion like anger or fear.

Always remind yourself of the possible outcomes and consequences you might have to face because of your decision before you make it.

Work towards not acting on immediate emotions like fear, anger, shock, sometimes sadness and so on.

These feelings are temporary.

Let them pass, and then act after you have thought it through.

The power that humans behold with their brain is the most influential factor in the history of this planet. Almost everything has been touched or affected by a human hand or something that a human hand created. A select few of things have not been touched or seen by a human being on Earth.

Just because it sounds a little strange doesn’t mean you should shy away from it. Especially if it will only better you in the long run.

Everyone has their vices and little things they do that aren’t all that positive.

Just like the rubber band method, we are training our minds to eliminate negative behavior.

These techniques may sound simple minded and a little on the odd side but they do work! With practice comes perfect and what better to perfect than yourself?
